About CIP

CIP, a member of the One CGIAR, a global research partnership for a food-secure future. One CGIAR science is dedicated to transforming food, land, and water systems in a climate crisis, and it is carried out by 13 CGIAR Centers/Alliances in close collaboration with hundreds of partners, including national and regional research institutes, civil society organizations, academia, development organizations and the private sector.

 

The position:

The Head of People and Culture reports to CIP’s Director General and will be a member of CIP’s executive team and partner with management and staff to help deliver on the organizational strategy. The selected candidate must be strategic, results-oriented and partnership focused with an approach that is responsive and aligned to business strategies. It is crucial that the candidate contributes both on the ground and on a strategic level to cultivate a proactive inclusive and results oriented culture. Success in the role will require influential partnership with middle and senior management within the organization to execute the People strategies that fosters organizational and individual effectiveness. The successful candidate will play a key role as a strategic leader based in Lima, Peru.

 

Duties and Accountabilities

Talent Management and development:

  • Set and oversee the execution of CIP’s people vision, priorities, goals, and strategies aligned to CGIAR P&C’s agenda.
  • Facilitate short and long-term organizational capacity requirements and understanding of critical roles into the talent review and leadership succession planning process.
  • Oversee and uphold equity analysis with regards to compensation, performance, retention and promotion.
  • Evaluate existing people infrastructure and implement elements that are necessary to facilitate effective and cohesive workforce planning and development.
  • Roll out programs that foster career development and growth including Performance evaluation, feedback loops and management training.

 

Culture Leadership:

  • Set goals and develop a strong employee engagement culture to foster connection, trust and passion through the use of proven employee engagement initiatives.
  • Partner with leaders to create and maintain a culture of inclusion where employees feel valued and see CIP-CGIAR as a place where they can do their best work.
  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure compliance with local labor laws and regulations; and CGIAR/CIP’s policies, advice management on necessary actions aligned to these requirements and provide guidance and training to staff as required.

 

Organizational strategic leadership and advising

  • Set the strategic vision and priorities for all talent work in collaboration with the Executive team, leveraging an explicit equity lens throughout the work.
  • Participate and offer guidance in conversation with leadership around decisions about strategic priorities and planning, ensuring talent management is fully integrated.

 

People Service Delivery:

Set the standards and oversee the implementation of effective and efficient People services to support CIP’s management and country offices in their day-to-day operations. The delivery of those services will be aligned to the global service delivery model by the global P&C function and will include, but are not limited to: talent attraction, selection and onboarding; employment contracts; payroll and benefits administration; performance and rewards management; and training and development.

 

Who are we looking for?

  • An Advanced degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Human Behavior, Psychology, or related field.
  • Extensive experience in People and Culture management, including experience at the senior level and delivering effective and efficient People and Culture services to management and staff, preferably in international and multicultural organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead an organization through major changes and maintain momentum with the ability to inspire continuous focus on key business drivers and the organization’s mission and values.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, planning and execution skills including the ability to anticipate the talent and organization implications and identify strategic challenges and priorities.
  • Proven ability to manage the people and process challenges associated with a rapidly growing global organization, including developing a competitive edge in hiring, developing, and retaining top talent, managing risks associated with local compliance and ensuring appropriate Duty of Care.
  • Exhibited compassion and empathy with genuine ability to help solve people’s issues for the organization.
  • Values-driven and comfortable challenging thinking and behaviors.
  • Personal qualities of humility, capacity for self-reflection, and a sense of humor
  • Possess an exceptional level of intellectual, professional, and interpersonal agility and flexibility, combined with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills in English, and understand the implications their actions and the HR function will have on the strategic, financial, and organizational demands of a rapidly evolving organization.
  • Upholds the highest ethical standards by inspiring trust and treating all people with respect and personal integrity.
  • Spanish desirable.
